Quick answer: the best Freshdesk alternative depends on what support means in your business. If you run a ticket queue with SLA targets, Zendesk, Zoho Desk or Help Scout are the closest swaps. If you are a small team whose customers write on WhatsApp, Instagram and email, and every answer should end in a booking, a payment or a follow-up, Zoye fits better because those conversations sit next to the customer record, the deal and the task list.
Key takeaways (October 2026)
- Freshdesk costs $19, $55 and $89 per agent per month billed annually; Freshdesk Omni, the messaging edition, costs $29, $79 and $119.
- Freddy AI Copilot adds $29 per agent per month on Pro and Enterprise, and Freddy AI Agent charges $49 per 100 sessions after the first 500.
- Freshworks applies a 20% markup to the WhatsApp cost Meta bills, according to its own help article.
- A team of 5 on Freshdesk Pro with Copilot pays $420 a month billed annually before any AI Agent sessions; the same 5 people on Zoye Growth, the plan with the WhatsApp and Meta automations, pay $47 a month billed yearly.
- Freshworks' pricing page no longer lists a free plan, only a 14-day Enterprise trial.
Why small teams look for a Freshdesk alternative
Most small teams leave Freshdesk for three reasons: the bill is per agent, the AI is sold separately and metered, and the product is built around tickets while their customers are chatting on WhatsApp and Instagram. None of these make Freshdesk a bad help desk. They make it an expensive fit for a team where support is one job among several.
Here is what Freshworks' own pages showed in October 2026.
Per-agent pricing at every tier. Freshdesk Growth is $19 per agent per month, Pro $55 and Enterprise $89, all billed annually. The page has a monthly toggle advertising a 20% saving for annual billing, so paying month to month costs more than these figures. Every person who answers customers needs a seat, and the features small teams tend to want first (multiple SLA policies, round-robin assignment, a multilingual help desk) start on Pro, not Growth.
Two editions, two price lists. Freshworks sells Freshdesk, which its pricing page describes as AI-powered service "over email" at the Growth tier, and Freshdesk Omni, built for service "across channels". Omni costs $29, $79 and $119 per agent per month billed annually. A team that wants WhatsApp, chat and email in one place should price Omni, not the $19 headline.
AI as a second and third bill. Freddy AI Copilot, the assistant that helps agents draft and summarize, is an add-on at $29 per agent per month billed annually and is listed for Pro and Enterprise only. Freddy AI Agent, the bot that answers customers, includes the first 500 sessions; the Omni pricing page says that allowance applies once per account, and every further 100 sessions cost $49. A session is one customer's interaction with the AI Agent: 24 hours from the start of a chat, or 72 hours from the customer's first email.
WhatsApp has its own markup. Freshworks' help article on connecting a WhatsApp number, updated in July 2026, lists the Growth, Pro and Enterprise plans and states that Freshworks applies a 20% markup to the total WhatsApp cost billed from Meta. Meta has billed per delivered message since 1 July 2025, so this markup grows with every template you send.
Usage meters beyond seats. The pricing page also lists day passes for occasional agents ($2, $7 and $12 per pass on Freshdesk; $5, $10 and $15 on Omni), connector app tasks at $80 per 5,000, and extra MCP actions at $15 per 1,000.
No free plan on the page. Older comparisons, including some of ours, mention a free Freshdesk tier. The October 2026 pricing page shows a 14-day trial of Enterprise instead, and its FAQ says the account is suspended if you do not pick a paid plan.
Who should stay on Freshdesk? A support team of 10 or more agents working a queue all day, with SLA targets, a public knowledge base and reporting by agent, gets real value from it. Freshdesk is a mature ticketing system with automations, a customer portal and solid analytics on every plan. The rest of this article is for the team that is not that.
What to look for in a Freshdesk alternative
Before you compare feature lists, decide which job you are hiring the tool for. A help desk organises tickets so a support team can work through them. A conversation workspace keeps every customer chat on the customer's record so a small team can sell, book, bill and follow up from the same place. Use this checklist to tell them apart.
- Which channels do your customers actually use? Count last month's messages by channel. If most arrive on WhatsApp and Instagram, a tool that treats them as add-ons will cost more and feel clumsier than one built around them.
- What does the full bill look like at your team size? Multiply the per-seat price by everyone who answers, then add AI, WhatsApp markups, onboarding fees and the monthly-billing premium if you do not want a yearly contract.
- How is AI priced? Per agent, per session, per resolution or included? Metered AI is fine when volume is predictable and painful when a busy month doubles it.
- What happens after the answer? A support conversation that ends in "I'd like to book" or "send me the invoice" should create the booking, the invoice or the task in the same place, not in a second tool.
- Does the AI ask before it acts? Any tool that sends messages for you should show what it is about to do and keep a record of what it did.
- Can you leave easily? Check that contacts and conversation history export as CSV.
- Is it on the official WhatsApp Business Platform? Unofficial WhatsApp tools that automate WhatsApp Web risk your number.

The 8 best Freshdesk alternatives in 2026
These eight cover the realistic options for a small or mid-size team: one conversation workspace, four help desks, a shared inbox, an ecommerce help desk and a WhatsApp-first inbox. Each entry starts with the catch, then gives the October 2026 price from the vendor's own page and the team it suits.
1. Zoye - support that ends in a booking, a payment or a follow-up
Zoye is not a helpdesk ticketing suite, and it does not try to be. There are no SLA timers, no ticket queues with priorities and escalation levels, and no public help centre. If that is what your team needs, skip to Zendesk, Zoho Desk or Help Scout below.
What Zoye is: an AI Business Operator, a single workspace where the CRM, deals, tasks, calendar, documents, invoices, reports, automations, WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram, email tracking and the AI Notetaker are already linked, with an AI that operates all of them. For a small team, that changes what "support" looks like. A customer question is rarely just a question. It is a lead asking about price, a client who wants to move a booking, or someone who needs an invoice resent. In Zoye the answer and the action happen on the same record.
How each channel works today:
- Instagram and Facebook. Chats is one inbox for Instagram and Facebook messages and comments, plus the WhatsApp conversations Zoye has with your leads. You assign a chat to a teammate, leave notes only your team sees, save quick replies, and every conversation is kept on the contact's card. When someone DMs your Page or Instagram account or replies to a story, Zoye can answer right away with buttons, a file or a reply in your brand's voice, and anything it should not answer goes to a person with the whole chat attached. The Facebook and Instagram automations page shows the setup.
- WhatsApp. Zoye runs on the official WhatsApp Business Platform. It answers, qualifies, books and hands over to a human, with the conversation on the lead's card, and it can send a payment link in the chat (Stripe, or Grow in Israel) and move the deal stage when it is paid. Connecting your own business WhatsApp number is coming soon; until then, Zoye holds these conversations with your leads through the Platform. The agent on WhatsApp page explains what it does for you and for your customers.
- Email. Each person connects their own Gmail or Outlook. Zoye reads incoming mail to surface follow-ups and summarize threads, drafts replies in your tone and sends only when you ask, and email tracking shows what was opened. It does not turn a shared support@ mailbox into a ticket queue.
The part a help desk cannot copy is what happens next. A WhatsApp question about availability becomes a booking from one Booking list with automatic reminders. A complaint becomes a task with an owner and a due date. A "can you resend that" becomes the invoice, sent from the same workspace. Want one of these steps to happen automatically? Tell Zoye what you have in mind, from the app, WhatsApp or Slack, and the rule comes back drafted in plain English, held until you approve it. Every run is logged with what fired and what changed, and can be reversed. Deletions and bulk actions always ask first, and if Meta rejects a send, you hear the reason instead of a false confirmation.

Every promise made in a chat becomes a task with an owner, so nothing a customer was told depends on someone's memory.
The honest limits: no SLA policies, no customer portal or knowledge base and no per-agent ticket analytics. Zoye is also not a call-centre tool. If your support team is measured on first-response time per ticket across hundreds of tickets a day, a help desk is the right purchase.
Pricing (as of October 2026): the entry plan, Almost Free, costs $5 a month or $4 a month on yearly billing; it covers one person with the core tools, 15 AI prompts a month and Google Calendar, Gmail and Drive, and has no automations. Starter is $29 a month ($23 on yearly billing) for a team of up to 10 with 5GB, Growth is $59 ($47) for up to 20 with 10GB, Scale is $119 ($95) for up to 100 with 25GB, and Customize is quoted. Zoye prices by plan and team size, not per agent, per AI session or per resolution. The pricing page shows what each plan includes.
Best for: teams of two to twenty whose customers write on WhatsApp, Instagram and email, and who want each conversation to end in a booking, a payment or a follow-up someone owns.
2. Zendesk - the closest like-for-like help desk
Zendesk is the help desk Freshdesk is most often compared with, and the catch is the same shape with bigger numbers: per-agent pricing, messaging channels only on the Suite plans, and AI that is billed per automated resolution.
As of October 2026, Zendesk's pricing page shows Support Team without social or business messaging channels; WhatsApp and other messaging apps arrive with Suite Team, and the page notes that additional WhatsApp fees apply. Copilot is a $50 per agent per month add-on billed annually, for Professional and above.
Pricing (as of October 2026): Support Team $19 per agent per month billed annually ($25 monthly), Suite Team $55 ($69), Suite Professional $115 ($149), and Suite Enterprise through sales. AI agents are included on every plan but billed by automated resolution: 5 per agent per month are included on Team plans and 10 on Professional, then $1.50 each committed or $2.00 pay as you go.
Best for: support teams of 10 or more who want the largest ecosystem of apps and integrations and can staff an admin. Our best Zendesk alternatives guide covers the other direction.
3. Help Scout - the friendliest shared inbox with a real free plan
Help Scout feels like email, not a ticketing system, which is why small teams like it. The catch is that it is still email-first: WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger only start on the paid Standard plan, with one WhatsApp number per inbox, and its AI agent, Envoy, is billed per resolution.
Pricing (as of October 2026): a Free plan for up to 5 users with 1 inbox, 1 Docs site and 100 contacts a month. Standard $25 per user per month (up to 25 users), Plus $45 (up to 50) and Pro $75 (minimum 10 users). The page advertises a 16% saving on annual billing. Envoy costs $0.75 per resolution, with a 3-month trial. Extra inboxes are $10 a month on annual billing.
Best for: email-led support teams of three to twenty who want a calm inbox, a help centre and per-user pricing that is easy to predict.
4. Front - the shared inbox for teams that live in email
Front turns team email, SMS and chat into shared, assignable conversations, and it is strong for account teams that collaborate on replies. The catch for a WhatsApp-heavy team is plan structure: Starter supports a single channel type, and native WhatsApp is a paid add-on on Professional and above.
Pricing (as of October 2026): Starter $25 per seat per month billed annually (up to 10 seats), Professional $65 (up to 50 seats), Enterprise $105. WhatsApp on Professional and Enterprise is billed at Meta's cost plus a 20% admin fee. Copilot adds $20 per seat per month on Starter and Professional, and Autopilot starts at $0.05 per conversation. The page did not show monthly-billing prices.
Best for: teams whose customer work is mostly email threads with several people involved, such as account management or operations desks.

See How It Works5. Zoho Desk - the budget help desk with depth
Zoho Desk is a full ticketing help desk at a lower list price than Freshdesk in most markets, and it fits naturally if you already run other Zoho apps. The catch is that WhatsApp and instant messaging start on Standard, and Zia, Zoho's AI, starts on Professional.
Pricing (as of October 2026): Zoho shows local-currency pricing by region, and the page we loaded displayed Indian rupees: Express ₹420, Standard ₹800, Professional ₹1,400 and Enterprise ₹2,400 per user per month billed annually, with a Free plan for 3 agents. We could not load the US-dollar figures directly from Zoho's page, so check the price in your currency before you compare.
Best for: cost-conscious support teams that want a real help desk with SLAs and are comfortable configuring it, especially teams already on Zoho CRM.
6. HubSpot Service Hub - support inside a CRM you may already use
Service Hub puts tickets, a help desk and a customer portal on top of HubSpot's CRM, so support sees the same contact record as sales. The catch is the jump to Professional, which is where WhatsApp, automation and most of the help desk live, and its one-time onboarding fee.
Pricing (as of October 2026): a free tier for up to 2 users; Starter shown at $7 and $20 per seat per month depending on billing; Professional $90 per seat per month billed annually ($100 monthly) plus a required $1,500 onboarding fee; Enterprise $150 per seat per month plus $3,500 onboarding. The WhatsApp row shows up to 1,000 messages a month on the paid help desk tiers. Our HubSpot WhatsApp integration guide works through the full cost.
Best for: teams already paying for HubSpot Sales or Marketing Hub at Professional level, where adding Service Hub keeps one database.
7. Gorgias - the help desk for online stores
Gorgias is built for ecommerce: it pulls orders from Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento and WooCommerce into the ticket, so an agent can refund or edit an order without leaving the conversation. The catch is that pricing follows billable tickets rather than seats, and AI is charged per automated interaction.
Pricing (as of October 2026): Starter $10 a month (monthly billing only, 50 tickets), Basic $50 billed annually or $60 monthly (300 tickets), Pro $300 or $360 (2,000 tickets), Advanced $750 or $900 (5,000 tickets), Enterprise on quote. Extra tickets cost $0.36 to $0.40 each. The AI Agent costs $0.90 per automated interaction on annual contracts and $1.00 on monthly. Gorgias's page also carried a second, conflicting set of figures in its page data when we checked, so confirm at sign-up.
Best for: Shopify and WooCommerce stores where most questions are about orders, returns and shipping.
8. respond.io - the WhatsApp-first conversation inbox
respond.io is built around messaging apps rather than email: WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, web chat and more in one inbox with routing and workflows. The catch is that the bill follows monthly active contacts as well as users, so a busy month costs more.
Pricing (as of October 2026): Starter $79 a month billed yearly or $99 monthly (5 users), Growth $159 or $199 (10 users, with AI agents), Advanced $279 or $349 (10 users), Enterprise custom. Extra users cost $12, $20 or $24 a month by plan, and Starter lists unlimited monthly active contacts, while Growth and Advanced start with 1,000. See our best respond.io alternatives for how that model scales.
Best for: teams of five or more that staff a messaging inbox all day across several chat apps.
Freshdesk alternatives compared side by side
The table puts the eight alternatives next to Freshdesk on what changes the bill and the daily work: the entry price, how the bill grows, how AI is charged and whether WhatsApp is part of the plan. All prices are as of October 2026 from each vendor's own pricing page, billed annually unless stated.

| Front | Shared email inbox | $25/seat (Starter) | Seats | Copilot $20/seat; Autopilot from $0.05 per conversation | Professional+, Meta cost + 20% |
| Zoho Desk | Budget help desk | Local currency, Free for 3 agents | Agents | Zia from Professional | From Standard |

What 5 people cost on each tool: a worked example
Seat pricing looks small per person and large per team. Take a typical 5-person business where everyone answers customers some of the time, billed annually, as of October 2026. The numbers below are list prices from each vendor's page and leave out Meta's per-message charges, which apply on every WhatsApp tool.
- Freshdesk Pro: 5 x $55 = $275 a month. Add Copilot for all five (5 x $29 = $145) and it is $420. If the AI Agent handles 1,000 sessions in a month after the first 500 are used, that adds 10 x $49 = $490.
- Freshdesk Omni Pro: 5 x $79 = $395 a month, or $540 with Copilot, plus the 20% markup on the WhatsApp cost Meta bills.
- Zendesk Suite Team: 5 x $55 = $275 a month, with automated resolutions above the included 25 at $1.50 to $2.00 each.
- Help Scout Standard: 5 x $25 = $125 a month, before Envoy resolutions at $0.75 each.
- Front Professional: 5 x $65 = $325 a month, plus WhatsApp at Meta's cost and a 20% fee.
- HubSpot Service Hub Professional: 5 x $90 = $450 a month, plus $1,500 once.
- respond.io Starter: $79 a month for 5 users, with unlimited monthly active contacts on Starter.
- Zoye Growth: $47 a month billed yearly ($59 monthly) for up to 20 members, the plan that includes the WhatsApp and Meta automations, with the CRM, bookings, invoices and tasks in the same plan.
The point is not that the cheapest line wins. A 25-agent support desk will find Zoye's missing SLA tools a real gap, and Freshdesk's per-agent price is fair for what it does. The point is that a 5-person business paying $420 a month for a ticketing system plus separate tools for CRM, bookings and invoices is paying twice for the same customer.

Explore FeaturesHelp desk or conversation workspace: which one do you need?
Choose a help desk when support is a department; choose a conversation workspace when support is one of the things a small team does all day. The quickest test is to look at your last 50 customer conversations and ask how many ended with a solved ticket versus a booking, a quote, a payment or a follow-up.
You probably need a help desk (Freshdesk, Zendesk, Zoho Desk, Help Scout) when:
- Three or more people do nothing but answer customers.
- You report on first-response time, resolution time and SLA breaches per agent.
- You run a public knowledge base that deflects a large share of questions.
- Conversations are mostly about using a product you have already sold.
You probably need a conversation workspace like Zoye when:
- The same few people sell, deliver, bill and answer.
- Most messages arrive on WhatsApp and Instagram, not through a web form.
- A good answer usually leads to an action: a booking, an invoice, a task, a stage change.
- You want AI that answers customers and also updates the record, rather than AI that only drafts.
Some businesses need both: a help desk for product support and a workspace for the commercial side. That is a fine setup if you are honest about which conversations go where. For a closer look at automating the customer side of WhatsApp, our guide to automated WhatsApp customer service goes step by step.
How to switch from Freshdesk
Switching takes a weekend for a small team if you move records first and channels last. Export everything, import contacts into the new tool, rebuild your saved replies and automations, then move each channel one at a time so no customer message lands in a tool nobody is watching.
- Export from Freshdesk. From the admin settings, export contacts, companies and tickets as CSV. Export knowledge base articles separately if you have them. Keep the files; they are your archive.
- Import into Zoye. Upload the contacts and companies spreadsheet, or send the CSV, a PDF or even a screenshot to the assistant, which extracts the records and shows them before saving. Zoye also imports from Trello and Monday.com if your team tracked work there. Jira, Notion and ClickUp imports are coming soon.
- Rebuild canned responses as quick replies. Start with the ten you use most. Most teams find that half the old ones are no longer needed.
- Recreate the automations that matter. Describe each one to the assistant, for example "when a new lead comes in from Instagram, send the welcome message and create a follow-up task for the owner". Zoye turns that into a rule you can read, and nothing runs until you approve it.
- Move channels one at a time. Connect your Facebook Page and Instagram account first, then switch your WhatsApp entry points and email. Leave Freshdesk running read-only for a few weeks so late replies to old tickets are not lost.
- Tell your team who owns what. Assignment and notes only help if everyone knows the rule for picking up a chat.
If you are comparing several tools, our roundups of WhatsApp team inbox tools and Intercom alternatives cover the inbox-first options in more depth.

Get StartedWhich Freshdesk alternative should you choose?
Pick by the shape of your team rather than the length of the feature list. A dedicated support desk should stay with a help desk, and a small team that sells and serves in the same chats should pick the tool where the chat and the customer record are the same thing.
- A 3-person service business answering on WhatsApp and Instagram, where questions turn into bookings and invoices: Zoye Growth, $59 a month ($47 billed yearly) for up to 20 members, the plan that includes the WhatsApp and Meta automations.
- A 15-agent support team with SLAs and a knowledge base: Zendesk Suite or Zoho Desk, priced with AI resolutions in the forecast.
- An email-first team of five that wants something calm and simple: Help Scout Standard.
- An account team working shared email threads: Front Professional.
- A company already on HubSpot Professional: Service Hub, so support and sales share one database.
- A Shopify or WooCommerce store: Gorgias, sized by ticket volume.
- A team staffing a busy multi-app messaging inbox: respond.io.
Whichever two or three you shortlist, run the same test for two weeks: route one real channel into each, answer every message from inside the tool, and count what is left at the end. Not tickets closed, but bookings made, invoices paid and follow-ups with a name on them. That count tells you which tool is doing the work.
If your customers already talk to you on WhatsApp, Instagram and email and you want every conversation to end in something done, book a Zoye demo and bring a week of real customer messages to try it on.
